Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) on Thursday submitted six proposals including establishment of Chinese bank branches in Bangladesh to the ministry of Commerce.
The chamber stated that establishment of Chinese
bank branches will streamline trade settlements, lower transaction costs, and
enhance financial connectivity between the two nations.
The proposals were submitted to the commerce
secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan while a delegation of BCCCI, led by its
President Md Khorshed Alam, paid a courtesy call on him at the Secretariat in
the capital.
The delegation also placed bonded warehouse misuse
at the forefront of the discussion, saying the unauthorised sale of bonded
goods in the local market is creating unfair competition and discouraging
potential foreign investment, particularly from China.
The BCCCI called for stronger monitoring and
enforcement to curb such practices and ensure a level playing field for
compliant businesses and genuine investors.
Other proposals included establishing at least 20
permanent display centres for Bangladeshi products in China, increasing exports
to the Chinese market, improving participation in major Chinese trade fairs,
and expanding technical and vocational cooperation with China.
The delegation also shared observations from
Bangladesh’s participation in the 10th China-South Asia Expo in Kunming,
highlighting opportunities to further promote Bangladeshi products and attract
Chinese
It stated that the BCCCI represents over 850
members, including approximately 500 Chinese enterprises operating in
Bangladesh established in 2003.
Han Jingchao, senior vice president, AZM Azizur Rahman,
senior vice president, Jamilur Rahman, secretary general, and Md Abu Taher,
executive director of BCCCI, were present at the meeting.
They said their aim fostering trade, investment,
industrial cooperation, and sustainable economic partnerships between
Bangladesh and China.
