Chattogram Port has retained its 68th position on Lloyd’s List of the world’s 100 busiest container ports for the second consecutive year.

The port ranked 67th in the list published in 2024, according to Lloyd’s List, one of the world’s oldest shipping journals based in London.

Lloyd’s List recently published its ranking, titled “One Hundred Container Ports – 2026”, based solely on container traffic data from seaports worldwide in 2025, rather than service quality or overall performance.

According to the list, Chattogram Port handled 3.409 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025, up from 3.275 million TEUs in 2024, registering 4.1% year-on-year growth.

The journal described Chattogram Port’s performance as modest, noting that major investments by APM Terminals, MSC and Red Sea Gateway are reshaping the future of Bangladesh’s leading container port.

Chattogram Port ranked 67th in 2023, 64th in 2022, 67th in 2021, 58th in 2020, 64th in 2019, 70th in 2018, 71st in 2017, 76th in 2016, 87th in 2015 and 86th in 2014.

Among the world’s ports, China’s Shanghai Port retained the top position, handling 55 million TEUs, followed by Singapore with 44.6 million TEUs and China’s Ningbo-Zhoushan Port with 43.8 million TEUs.
