Bangladesh Bank (BB) has cancelled the remaining tenure of
Dr Mohammad Akhtar Hossain, who was appointed as the central bank's Chief
Economist on a contractual basis.
The decision was announced in an office order issued by the
Human Resources Department-1 of Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday. The order did not
give any reason for the appointment cancellation nearly 10 months earlier.
The interim government appointed him as Chief Economist
starting 1 July last year, and the two-year contract was due to expire on 30
June next year.
According to Wednesday’s order, Dr Akhtar Hossain's
remaining contractual tenure as Chief Economist, under an office instruction
issued on 1 September 2025 and appointment letter No 28 of 2025, has been
cancelled with effect from 10 September 2026.
