Prime Minister’s Finance and Planning Adviser Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir focused on the importance of a skilled workforce meeting both domestic and global labour market demands on World Youth Skills Day 2026 celebrated on Tuesday.
The National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) on
Tuesday celebrated World Youth Skills Day 2026 with a colourful rally and
discussion meeting in Dhaka under the theme, "Skills for a Shared
Future", said a press release.
The event was held at the Investment Building in
Agargaon and was attended by Titumir as the chief guest. State Minister for
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque, Principal
Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, National Human Resource
Development Fund Managing Director and CEO Md Touhidur Rahman, and NSDA
Executive Chairman Dr Naznin Kawsar Chowdhury were also present.
A rally, joined by government officials,
representatives from development partners, NGOs, private training institutions,
industries, trainers, trainees, and youth, marked the beginning of the programme.
Speaking at the event, Titumir stressed the
importance of developing a skilled, productive workforce capable of meeting the
demands of both domestic and international labour markets. He called for
modernising education and training curricula, expanding access to
internationally recognized certifications, exploring new overseas job markets,
and strengthening reskilling and upskilling initiatives.
He also said the government is working on a new
development model, "Invest Bangladesh," aimed at expanding
investment, creating productive employment, ensuring policy stability,
improving energy security, and reducing bureaucratic barriers. He expressed
confidence that these initiatives would help Bangladesh achieve its goal of
becoming a $1 trillion economy.
State Minister Nurul Haque said the government has
taken steps to send more skilled workers abroad at lower costs and is working
to make economic zones operational within the next 18 months. He highlighted
Qatar's initiative to upgrade four government technical training centres in
Bangladesh to meet its labor market requirements and emphasised the need to
prepare skilled workers for emerging opportunities in Europe.
The speakers urged young people to acquire
market-relevant skills and called on all stakeholders to work together to build
a skilled, innovative, and inclusive Bangladesh while contributing to the
country's economic growth and social development.
