The government on launched the piloting of “Fuel Pass”
mobile application at two refueling stations in the capital to bring
transparency and improvements in the fuel distribution process.
The app has been initially launched at Trust Filling Station
in Tejgaon and at Sonarbangla Filling Station in Asad Gate area, announced the
Energy and Mineral Resources Division (EMRD) at a press conference on Thursday.
Gradually it will be rolled out across the country,
officials said. Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation of EMRD has launched the app.
The app would ensure speedy fuel distribution to vehicle
owners, and man-directed manual distribution has been taking up time at filling
stations amid the countrywide panic buying spurred by a global supply shortage.
Furthermore, it would also ensure fair distribution among
all the vehicle users and owners. Many vehicle owners are allegedly refueling multiple
times, despite having adequate stock, contributing to an artificial shortage.
A vehicle owner has to register with the app to take fuel.
In the app, he/she can see the fuel centrally allotted for him by energy
regulators.
A refueling station owner also has to register through the app’s online portal to ensure legal and transparent distribution, and avoid illegal hoarding.
Everything will be monitored by a central dashboard, and the app's data will automatically streamline with the BRTA database.
