Three more fuel carrying ships have entered Bangladesh's
territorial waters and are set to reach the Chattogram port by Saturday, said
Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim on Friday.
Earlier in the day, China-flagged MT Yuan Jing He reached
the port carrying 27,300 tonnes of Singaporean diesel.
Another vessel carrying 34,000-tonne Malaysian diesel is on
course to arrive at the port late on Friday, Syed Refayet Hamim said. The ship
set off from Malaysia on 29 March, and is currently sailing in the waters near
the Chattogram port, he added.
Two more fuel tankers carrying liquefied petroleum gas
(LPG), and liquefied natural gas (LNG) have also entered the country’s
territorial waters and are set to reach the Chattogram port before Saturday, the official added.
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Assistant Manager Farzin
Hassan Moumita on Friday said the government is pursuing efforts to source fuel
from beyond the Middle East, in a bid to avoid the region’s turmoil.
