Invest Bangladesh has invited Danish investors to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s energy, infrastructure, food processing and industrial sectors, as the country seeks to strengthen economic ties with Denmark and attract foreign investment.
The invitation was made at a meeting between Invest Bangladesh Chairman Ashik Chowdhury and Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller at the organisation’s office in Dhaka on Sunday.
The discussions focused on expanding bilateral investment cooperation, developing sustainable infrastructure, exploring opportunities in the energy sector, promoting environmentally friendly industrialisation and identifying new areas for investment.
The two sides discussed the operations and future prospects of Karnaphuli Fertiliser Company Limited (KAFCO).
They also proposed forming a joint working team to accelerate work on the Laldia Container Terminal project in Chattogram under the agreement signed with Denmark’s APM Terminals. Both sides stressed the importance of effective communication and coordination to advance the project.
The meeting also explored opportunities to utilise Danish expertise and investment in Bangladesh’s energy sector. The potential of Swarnadwip was also discussed.
Invest Bangladesh invited Danish investors to consider investing in unused land and industrial assets owned by various state-run enterprises. It highlighted opportunities to establish new industries or make productive use of existing assets, particularly sites that previously housed or currently accommodate sugar mills and other industrial facilities.
The organisation said it was ready to provide necessary support if interested Danish investors submitted specific proposals.
Food processing was also identified as a promising area for bilateral cooperation.
Dr Julia Moin, director general (joint secretary) of Invest Bangladesh’s Investment Development-1, highlighted the potential for developing food processing industries in the northern region.
She discussed the scope for conducting feasibility studies based on seasonal agricultural produce, developing cold storage facilities and producing beverages and other food products from locally available fruits.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular communication and discussions to advance investment cooperation in the sectors identified during the meeting.
