Nepal is exploring the possibility of launching direct flights to Cox’s Bazar as Bangladesh prepares to open its international airport there next month, creating opportunities to boost tourism between the two countries.
Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari discussed ways to strengthen tourism cooperation with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat at a meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday.
The minister said the opening of Cox’s Bazar International Airport would enable Nepali tourists to travel directly to the popular beach destination, creating fresh opportunities for tourism growth. He expressed hope that Nepal’s flag carrier, Himalaya Airlines, would operate direct flights to Cox’s Bazar.
The meeting also discussed expanding tourism exchanges, improving connectivity and identifying opportunities for joint initiatives to develop the tourism industry in both countries.
Nepal also expressed interest in launching Biman Bangladesh Airlines flights on the Dhaka-Pokhara route, which could strengthen air links between the two neighbours and make travel more convenient.
Both sides expressed optimism about deepening bilateral relations and expanding tourism cooperation through improved air connectivity and new travel opportunities.
