Around 12 lakh postpaid electricity customers of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) will gain access to additional bill payment channels under a new partnership with BRAC Bank.
Customers will be able to pay their bills through the bank’s branches and sub-branches, Astha retail banking app and CORPNET corporate banking platform, according to a press release.
The bank will also establish application programming interface (API) connectivity with BPDB to update payment records in real time, helping streamline payment processing and reconciliation.
The agreement was signed at BPDB’s head office in Dhaka recently. BRAC Bank is the first private commercial bank to secure a central account with BPDB alongside a state-owned bank, the release said.
Anjana Khan Mojlish, member (finance) of BPDB and a joint secretary, said the partnership would support online bill collection and make payments more convenient for customers.
Md Shaheen Iqbal, additional managing director and head of wholesale banking at BRAC Bank, said the bank would use its nationwide network and digital platforms to simplify electricity bill payments.
Saleh Ahmed, director (finance); Engr Md Abdul Basid, member (distribution); Mohammed Nurul Absar, general manager (commercial); and Mriganka Mohan Paul, senior system analyst at Dhaka Computer Center, represented BPDB at the signing ceremony.
AKM Faisal Halim, head of transaction banking; Musabbir Ahmed, head of cash management; and Shaikh Mohammad Imran Quader, regional head of distribution network, represented BRAC Bank.
