Bangladesh’s garment exports to the United Kingdom rebounded strongly in August after a marginal decline in July, rising 10.53% year-on-year, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The August rebound helped garment export earnings from the UK grow by 3.74% in the first two months of the current 2026-27 fiscal year.
EPB data showed that Bangladesh exported apparel worth US$915.63 million to the UK during July-August of FY27, up from $882.62 million in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
In value terms, garment export earnings from the UK increased by $33.01 million during the two-month period.
The growth came despite a 2.44% year-on-year decline in July. A 10.53% increase in August more than offset the drop recorded in the first month of the fiscal year.
Bangladesh’s average monthly garment export earnings from the UK stood at $457.82 million during July-August, significantly higher than the monthly average of $365.71 million recorded in FY26.
Bangladesh earned a total of $4.39 billion from garment exports to the UK in FY26.
The monthly average during the first two months of FY27 was therefore around 25% higher than the average monthly earnings in the previous fiscal year.
The $915.63 million earned during July-August was equivalent to 20.86% of Bangladesh’s total garment export earnings from the UK in the whole of FY26.
The UK remains one of Bangladesh’s major export destinations for readymade garments. The double-digit growth in August helped restore export momentum in the market after the decline recorded in July.
Continued growth in shipments to the UK could support Bangladesh’s overall apparel export performance in the coming months.
