Bangladesh will participate in 50 international trade fairs across 27 countries in the 2026-27 fiscal year in a bid to boost exports and attract new investment opportunities.
The decision was taken at the 149th meeting of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Board of Directors, held on Tuesday at the EPB conference room.
The board approved the International Trade Fair Calendar for FY27, under which Bangladesh will take part in 50 overseas trade fairs, focusing on 12 priority export sectors.
The meeting also approved the formation of a steering committee to organise the 31st Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2027, tentatively scheduled to begin on 1 January 2027.
In addition, the board made a policy-level decision to lease out the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BCFEC).
Speaking at the meeting, Commerce Minister and EPB Board Chairman Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said the government has launched a series of initiatives to create a more business-friendly environment and attract fresh investment.
“Under the current leadership, we will witness further positive changes, Insha’Allah. The government is committed to accelerating economic growth, creating new investment opportunities and expanding business activities,” he said. He added that the government is simplifying business registration and operational procedures to make Bangladesh a more attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investors.
Highlighting the country’s export potential, the minister said priority sectors such as leather, agro-processing and light engineering have the capacity to achieve double-digit growth and emerge as major export earners.
Muktadir also underscored the need to help new entrepreneurs and startups access international markets.
“Many of today’s leading exporters started as small businesses. Young entrepreneurs need support to connect with international buyers, participate in overseas trade fairs and strengthen their export capabilities,” he said.
He noted that many new entrepreneurs lack the financial capacity to travel abroad to explore markets and build business relationships.
“At this stage, they require support and patronage. The EPB will play an active role in helping young entrepreneurs grow,” he added.
Among those attending the meeting were Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan, EPB Vice Chairman Mohammad Hasan Arif, Additional Secretary (FTA) of the Ministry of Commerce Ayesha Akter, and other members of the EPB Board of Directors.
