Bangladesh is working to establish a modern, safe, and responsible artificial intelligence (AI) governance framework rooted in human rights, ethics, and inclusive development, said Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam.
He made the remarks at the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) 2026 in Shanghai, China.
The four-day conference runs from 17 to 20 July. The minister stated that the government is reforming its digital policies and legal frameworks to keep pace with rapid technological advances, aiming to harness AI for public welfare while ensuring effective oversight to mitigate risks.
According to Anam, Bangladesh is formulating an integrated National AI Policy.
As part of this initiative, the government is strengthening personal data protection and cybersecurity, drafting guidelines for public sector AI use, developing responsible data governance standards, and expanding AI education and curriculum development.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s vision for global AI governance, Anam outlined four priorities: safety, equity, adaptability, and international cooperation.
He urged the international community to collaborate on technology transfer, capacity building, data sovereignty, and equitable AI access for developing nations, emphasising that the future of AI must be guided by human values, justice, and inclusivity.
Held under the theme “AI Partnership for a Brighter Future,” the high-level meeting explored how AI can accelerate sustainable development, enhance collective security, and promote inclusive growth.
The conference brought together heads of government, ministers, and representatives from more than 100 countries, alongside international organisations, industry executives, and academics.
