Germany and Bangladesh have reinforced their partnership to accelerate the country’s transition towards a cleaner and more resilient energy future, as leading policymakers, development partners and industry representatives gathered in Dhaka for a major conference on sustainable energy.

The flagship “Conference on Innovations and Partnerships for Sustainable Energy Transition,” organised by CEMS-Global in collaboration with GIZ Bangladesh, was held on Saturday at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), coinciding with the nation’s largest power, solar and lighting technology exhibitions.

The full-day conference served as a key platform for advancing Bangladesh’s low-carbon development agenda, highlighting Germany’s long-standing support in areas such as renewable energy expansion, grid modernisation, industrial energy efficiency, e-mobility and green skills development.

Both countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to driving innovation-based solutions and strengthening policy frameworks needed to achieve Bangladesh’s long-term energy transformation.

Speakers emphasised the depth of German development cooperation, noting that GIZ Bangladesh continues to support programmes that scale up clean-energy deployment, integrate a higher share of renewables into the national grid and enhance energy-efficiency measures across key sectors.

The partnership is also fostering electric mobility and developing the skilled workforce required to support Bangladesh’s emerging green economy.

These collaborative efforts reflect a common vision to reduce dependence on fossil fuels while empowering local institutions and talent to lead the country’s climate-resilient development, , officials said..

The conference featured four thematic sessions bringing together government officials, development experts and private-sector leaders to examine emerging opportunities and challenges within the sustainable-energy landscape.

The opening session, “Green Cooling, Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency,” underscored the need for efficient cooling solutions, improved industrial energy management and faster renewable integration to reduce emissions.

The second session, “Fostering Synergy for Green Skills Development,” focused on preparing Bangladesh’s workforce for the clean-energy transition. Representatives from the World Bank, BRAC and the ILO stressed the importance of industry-aligned training programmes and stronger institutional collaboration.

In the afternoon, the session titled “Accelerating the Energy Transition: Private Sector Participation in Rooftop Solar” explored how innovative business models and increased private investment could help scale rooftop solar nationwide, easing pressure on the national grid.

The concluding session, “Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs): The Next Frontier for Green Industry,” examined how CPPAs can offer industries reliable, cost-effective renewable electricity.

Throughout the event, participants stressed the urgency of stronger cooperation among government entities, development partners and private financiers to unlock the full potential of Bangladesh’s clean-energy transition.

CEMS-Global and GIZ Bangladesh reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, supporting policy reform and fostering innovation that can guide the country towards a more inclusive and greener energy landscape.

As Bangladesh works to expand its renewable-energy portfolio, boost efficiency and modernise its power systems, the Germany-Bangladesh partnership is emerging as a critical pillar in shaping a sustainable and climate-resilient energy future for the nation.
