The Development Organization of the Rural Poor (DORP) welcomed the interim government’s Tk 7,90,000 crore national budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year (FY26) set on Monday.
DORP, a national NGO, in a written statement issued on Monday urged the government to ensure that people across the country—especially those in remote areas like the haor and coastal regions—get heard and benefit from the budget.
It addressed that local voices should be heard during the planning stage so that the implementation can be proper and meet the needs of local communities.
DORP concluded by calling on the government to ensure transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in every step of the budget implementation process.
Emphasising-- transparency, accountability, and citizen participation--a people’s budget must begin with the people. DORP warned that while the numbers may appear impressive on paper, their impact will be insufficient where it matters most.
“Committees responsible for water and sanitation at the union and upazila levels are often so inactive that many people don’t even know they exist, even though it’s crucial to align national resources with grassroots realities,” it added.
Addressing the 9–10% inflation rate, the organisation said, “We expected stronger allocations in the WASH sector water, sanitation and hygiene which remains critically underfunded, especially for climate-vulnerable regions.”
