The agricultural sector comprising agriculture, food, fisheries and livestock got an allocation of Tk39,620 crore in the proposed budget for FY26.
The allocation for the ministries of agriculture, food, and fisheries and livestock has been increased by Tk1,361 crore which is 3.557% higher compared to FY25.
These announcements were made on Monday by Finance Adviser

Dr Salehuddin Ahmed during the national budget speech for 2025-26. The main principle of this year’s budget has been set as the commitment to building an equitable and sustainable economic system.
For the ministries of agriculture, food, and fisheries and livestock Tk38,259 crore was allocated in FY25.
Agricultural economist Dr Jahangir Alam told the Daily Sun that although productivity has been emphasised throughout the budget speech, the actual budget does not reflect this adequately.
“Allocations and subsidies have not been made appropriately,” he said. In the proposed budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, annual income of up to Tk5 lakh from agriculture has been made tax-free. The interim government took the decision to encourage people to engage in agriculture and to meet the food needs of the growing population.
In the next fiscal year, an action plan has been adopted to enhance the storage capacity of food warehouses to 3.7 million tonnes and to strengthen the institutional capacity of food grain management.
The finance adviser said that considering the protein needs of the population, the target for fish production in the 2025-26 fiscal year has been set at 5.255 million tonnes.
