BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman revealed on Sunday that Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani’s unwavering stand for the oppressed, his leadership in democratic movements and his fearless challenge to unjust power structures made him a defining force in the nation’s political awakening.

In a post on his verified Facebook page Marking Bhashani’s death anniversary, Tarique said the uncompromising leader had stood firmly against imperialism, exploitation and authoritarian rule throughout his life.

Bhashani remains an unforgettable figure in the country’s history, he said, noting his pivotal role in anti-imperialist and anti-oppression struggles from the British era to the broader subcontinental movements for justice.

Tarique added that Bhashani’s courageous leadership, steadfast opposition to exploitation and lifelong commitment to democracy, human rights and national sovereignty would continue to inspire future generations.

Paying respect and seeking eternal peace for the departed leader, he said Bhashani would be remembered as a pathfinder for the nation. Bhashani played a vital role in the country’s Liberation War, democratic movements and in advancing the rights of farmers, workers and other marginalised groups, he wrote.

With his fearless leadership, Bhashani encouraged people to realise their rights, Tarique said. His powerful voice, he added, would shake oppressive rulers and he consistently stood beside the people in difficult times, earning their trust.

“Bhashani will remain a source of inspiration in the struggle for the rights of the helpless, for human rights and for protecting our democracy, independence and sovereignty,” he said, adding that the leader’s deep patriotism would continue to guide the defence of national interests.

“We will be able to reach our desired goals if we properly follow the ideology of Maulana Bhashani,” Tarique concluded.
