Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho have distributed free seeds of winter vegetable varieties to marginal farmers in Kaharol upazila of Dinajpur to encourage vegetable cultivation on homestead land and fallow plots, meet household nutritional needs and reduce food expenses for farming families.

The Kaharol upazila unit Shuvosangho organised the programme near the historic Kantajew Temple on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Kaharol unit Shuvosangho President Mahfuz Islam said, “We are delighted to stand beside hardworking farmers. The main objective of this programme is to encourage them to grow vegetables on their own. Safe vegetable cultivation on homestead land and unused plots will help meet family nutritional needs and create opportunities for additional income.

“In particular, greater involvement of rural women in farming will increase their contribution to the economic activities of their families and communities. Bashundhara Shuvosangho has always been working for the welfare of marginalised people. We want to continue standing beside the people living in the area,” he added.

Local farmers expressed satisfaction after receiving seeds of various winter vegetables, including red amaranth, radish, bottle gourd, sweet pumpkin, beans and tomatoes.

Kaharol upazila unit Shuvosangho Vice-President Sanjay Roy, General Secretary Masud Rana, Women’s Affairs Secretary Eti Akter, Sports Secretary Kalyan Roy and executive members Mominul Islam, Moniruzzaman, Shamim Islam, Sumi Akter, Palash Roy, Ripon Roy and AP Rani Roy also attended the event.
