Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a human chain and poster
exhibition against noise pollution at Tarabo Bishwa Road in Rupganj, Dhaka on Thursday,
to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of noise pollution.
Through the initiative, participants highlighted the harmful
effects of noise pollution to pedestrians, drivers, local residents, and the
general public. They also urged people to refrain from unnecessary honking,
using loud microphones and sound systems, and creating excessive noise in
public places.
The event was organised under the guidance of Abdul Hannan
Milton, coordinator of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhaka Metropolitan unit. Also
present were Md Ahsanul Haque, president of Shuvosangho’s Rupganj Thana unit; Rimon,
its general secretary; Shikha, vice-president; Ratul, joint general secretary; and
Tarek, organizing secretary; among others.
Participants at the human chain highlighted noise pollution
as a significant environmental concern. They said that noise pollution not only
disrupts people's normal lives but can also negatively affect hearing, sleep,
concentration, and mental well-being. They emphasised that a peaceful
environment is particularly important for children, elderly people, patients,
and students.
The poster exhibition featured various awareness messages on
preventing noise pollution. Emphasis was placed on avoiding unnecessary vehicle
horns, maintaining silence around hospitals and educational institutions,
refraining from using microphones and sound systems at excessive volumes, and
respecting existing laws and regulations on noise pollution control.
Participants at the human chain emphasized the importance of
personal awareness and social responsibility in controlling noise pollution.
They said that avoiding unnecessary honking on roads, refraining from creating
loud noises without reason, and adopting responsible attitudes toward noise
could help make the environment more peaceful and comfortable.
According to the organizers, alongside raising awareness
about noise pollution, it is essential to bring positive changes to people's
everyday behavior. Such initiatives involving young people can help foster
environmental responsibility among the public and spread the message of
building a noise-free environment.
The event concluded by highlighting the message that
creating a noise-free environment is not the responsibility of any single
organization but a collective responsibility shared by every member of society.
