Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a reading session in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur on Thursday to encourage reading habits among young people.

Members of the organisation and book lovers took part in the session at the Gangachara Upazila Parishad auditorium.

Participants discussed several literary works by noted novelist Imdadul Haq Milon, including Noorjahan, Dakatrao Manush, Shei Bideshi Meye, Noy Mash and Rohoshshomoy Jongolbari.

They read excerpts from the books and exchanged views on their themes, character psychology, struggles and human values. Participants also explored similarities between the characters' joys, sorrows and aspirations and their own life experiences.

Organisers said the initiative aimed to encourage young people to explore beyond academic textbooks and provide them with an opportunity to express their thoughts.

Asaduzzaman, president of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Gangachara upazila unit, said many young people were increasingly occupied with mobile phones and social media.

"We have organised this reading session to bring them closer to books and help them become thoughtful and compassionate individuals. We want young people not only to gain knowledge through reading but also to develop a sense of responsibility towards society and fellow human beings," he said.

The unit's general secretary Nazrul Islam and other members of the organisation were present.

The organisers expressed hope that regular reading sessions would help develop reading habits, creativity and human values among young people.
