The Nangalkot upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho hosted an awareness meeting and distributed informational leaflets in Cumilla on Monday to check the spread of dengue and promote clean environmental practices.

The programme was held at the Jaman’s Kindergarten auditorium at noon, drawing students, teachers, and civic figures to discuss preventive measures against mosquito-borne infections.

Presided over by Bashundhara Shuvosangho Nangalkot Upazila Unit President AKM Maruf Hossain, the discussion featured former Nangalkot municipal mayor AKM Moniruzzaman Khan as the chief guest.

The unit’s General Secretary, journalist Saiful Islam, Joint General Secretary Raihan Mazumder, Jaman’s Kindergarten Headmistress Rubina Akter, and Assistant Teachers Nasir Uddin, Hossain Mohammad Farhad, Mohammad Noyon, Abdul Halim, and Rabiul Hossain addressed the session as special guests alongside participating students.

Speakers underscored that sustaining clean household and institutional surroundings is paramount to containing the dengue outbreak. They cautioned that Aedes mosquitoes breed rapidly in stagnant water collecting across rooftops, flower tubs, abandoned plastic containers, coconut shells, and discarded tyres.

They pointed out that eradicating dengue is not merely a matter of personal caution but a collective civic duty, calling on households, schools, and local communities to systematically eliminate breeding grounds.

Speakers also advised against ignoring early fever symptoms, urging individuals to seek prompt clinical counsel rather than resorting to self-medication.

Following the meeting, organisers distributed awareness leaflets among students, urging them to act as community ambassadors for hygiene and environmental sanitation.
