Fifteen marginalised women in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh are charting a new path toward financial self-reliance, acquiring tailoring skills to overcome poverty and support their families.
The initiative, organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho, is
underway at the Tetulia Upazila Women Affairs Officer’s Office.
The workshop brings together widows, impoverished
schoolgirls, and underprivileged women, offering practical training in sewing
and garments fabrication.
Upon completing the training course, Bashundhara Shuvosangho
will provide each trainee with a sewing machine free of cost, enabling them to
establish home-based tailoring enterprises and secure sustainable household
earnings.
Trainee Sabina Yasmin shared her aspirations: "I was desperately seeking an opportunity to do something productive amid grinding poverty. Acquiring tailoring skills will allow me to earn independently and support my family in the days ahead. I am immensely grateful to Bashundhara Shuvosangho."
Another participant, Shirina Akter, remarked: "Despite
having the will, financial constraints kept me from contributing to my family's
income. Receiving a sewing machine will allow me to ease our hardships. This is
a tremendous opportunity for me."
Tetulia Upazila Women Affairs Officer Karuna Kanta Roy
lauded the grassroots programme, emphasising that skill-development training
remains indispensable for women's economic empowerment.
"Bashundhara Shuvosangho's initiative is not only
generating viable self-employment opportunities but also restoring
self-confidence among these women," he observed. "Each sewing machine
distributed here will craft an inspiring story of household resilience and
success."
