Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a mental health awareness
seminar in Nandail, Mymensingh, on Sunday, highlighting the challenges facing
young people and ways to maintain psychological well-being.
The seminar, titled “Mental Health and Well-being: Current
Context, Challenges and Ways Forward,” was organised by the organisation’s
Nandail upazila unit on Sunday.
Speakers said mental health was as important as physical
health, warning that neglecting stress, depression, anxiety and loneliness
could affect personal lives, family relationships, education and work
performance. They urged people to discuss mental health problems with family
members and trusted individuals and seek professional help when necessary.
The event was chaired by Shuvo Dutta, president of
Shuvosangho’s Nandail unit, and moderated by General Secretary Mustafizur
Rahman Bijoy. Discussions covered the state of mental health, the effects of
excessive technology use and ways to maintain psychological well-being.
Alam Farazi, an adviser to Shuvosangho’s upazila unit and
Mymensingh correspondent for Kaler Kantho, said young people were increasingly
exposed to mental stress from work, studies and excessive social media use.
Open discussion and professional advice were essential to addressing such
problems, he said.
Bijoy said mental health care was a basic necessity, not a
luxury. Reducing digital addiction, exercising regularly, maintaining social
connections and getting adequate sleep were important for psychological
well-being, he added.
Dutta said social and environmental factors were weakening mental peace and harmony. He described the seminar as an effort to raise awareness among young people and strengthen social bonds, pledging to expand similar initiatives.
