The Barishal district unit Bashundhara Shuvosangho has organised a special study circle focusing on the literary works and philosophy of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The event was held at Bonolota Book Café in the city around 5pm on Wednesday.
Presided over and moderated by Naziur Rahman, president of the district unit Shuvosangho, the event featured Bahauddin Golap, deputy registrar of the University of Barishal and an adviser to the organisation, and Zahirul Islam, a lecturer at Barishal College and another adviser, as guest speakers.
During the discussion, the speakers highlighted Nazrul’s non-communal outlook, his commitment to equality and the role of his writings in resisting exploitation.
In his speech, Bahauddin Golap said, “Nazrul is not merely an asset of Bengali literature; he is an eternal beacon of rebellion and humanity. Today’s young generation must deeply understand Nazrul’s literature and philosophy of life to raise their voices against injustice and discrimination.”
Zahirul Islam said, “We must turn away from cyber addiction and cultivate the habit of reading books. Such thoughtful initiatives by Shuvosangho are commendable for promoting literary pursuits and positive values among the younger generation.”
Shuvosangho leaders in the district expressed their determination to continue organising such events regularly to promote literary and cultural activities.
Shuvosangho Finance Secretary Abu Sayeed, Work and Planning Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed, and Education and Health Affairs Secretary Naim Hossain Khan, among others, were present.
