The Rangabali upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a discussion programme in Rangabali, Patuakhali on Tuesday to mark International Day of Rural Women, with speakers calling for formal recognition, dignity, and economic self-reliance for rural female workers.
The event took place
around 3:00pm in the courtyard of Enayet Munshi's residence at Baherchar
village under Rangabali Sadar union, drawing local rural women from across the
coastal locality.
Mohsin Talukder,
coordinator of non-governmental organisation VERK, addressed the gathering as
the key discussant.
Rangabali Press Club General Secretary and Rangabali upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Coordinator M Sohel, former unit member Abdur Rob Hawlader, Rangabali Model Secondary School Senior Teacher Sandha Rani, and village medical practitioner Tumpa Das, among others, attended the meeting.
Speakers observed that
rural women do not merely look after domestic chores; they play a pivotal role
in agriculture, fish processing, livestock rearing, and small-scale business.
Despite their tireless labour, their economic output often remains unrecognised
and undervalued.
They noted that women in
the coastal belt continually battle natural calamities such as cyclones, tidal
surges, and riverbank erosion while sustaining their households. To ensure
their financial independence, the speakers demanded skill development training,
easy-term credit facilities, modern technology, and market access.
During the interactive
session, participating village women shared their daily struggles and called
for expanded income-generating opportunities.
Organisers reaffirmed
their commitment to sustaining such outreach initiatives to boost
self-confidence and advance socio-economic empowerment among marginalized rural
women.
