Stressing the imperative of civic awareness, environmental cleanliness, and the destruction of mosquito breeding grounds to curb dengue infections, an awareness campaign was held in Manikganj on Sunday.
The hour-long outreach programme took place at a restaurant in
the Beutha area of Manikganj town. The Manikganj district unit of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho organised the event to discuss the transmission, causes, and
preventive measures against the vector-borne disease.
Presided over by Manikganj district unit of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho President Md Hasan Shikder, the session was conducted by Vice-President
Jahirul Islam Tushar.
Office Secretary Atiqur Rahman Ashiq, Social Welfare
Secretary Bulbul Hasan, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Tahmina Afrin
Mohona, and Assistant Social Welfare Secretary Russel Sarker, among other members,
addressed the gathering.
Speakers noted that individual vigilance alongside collective community engagement across households, academic institutions, and neighbourhoods is essential to prevent dengue outbreaks.
They pointed out that Aedes mosquitoes breed predominantly
in stagnant, clean water. Residents were advised to regularly clear standing
water from rooftops, balconies, flowerpots, discarded tyres, coconut shells,
and plastic containers. They also highlighted the necessity of keeping overhead
water reservoirs covered and maintaining tidy surroundings.
"Combating dengue cannot be left solely to individuals
or public agencies," the speakers observed, urging citizens to inspire
neighbours, peers, and local communities to adopt routine sanitation habits.
The gathering also advised patients displaying early
symptoms to seek immediate medical consultation, warning against ignoring
danger signs such as acute abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding,
severe fatigue, or respiratory distress.
Members reaffirmed their commitment to continuing social
welfare drives and public health campaigns to foster a clean, disease-free
environment.
