Aiming to encourage voluntary blood donation to save the lives of critically ill patients, Bashundhara Shuvosangho launched a week-long blood donation campaign in Khulna on Sunday.
Under the initiative, members of the social platform will
donate blood personally alongside carrying out mass awareness drives on the
importance of safe, voluntary donation.
The campaign formally commenced with voluntary donations by
vice-president of Khulna district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Sanad Ghorami
and joint general secretary Andolan Bhadra.
Present during the inauguration were president of Khulna
district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Bipul Roy Chowdhury, general secretary
GM Abu Musa, organising secretary Abdul Kader Suman, office secretary Rudra
Das, women affairs secretary Ajanta Bala, and member Sani Sheikh, among others.
Speakers emphasised that shortages of blood often disrupt vital medical care for accident victims, surgery patients, expectant mothers, and individuals suffering from thalassaemia or dengue. Ensuring an emergency supply necessitates a dedicated network of voluntary donors ready to step forward.
Bipul Roy Chowdhury said, "Donating blood is a noble
humanitarian act. Blood from a healthy individual can save someone’s life. We
want the youth to step up voluntarily and stand beside people in times of
crisis." He added that activists would work to dispel widespread fears and
misconceptions regarding donation.
Later, Abu Musa noted, "Many wish to donate but
hesitate due to a lack of accurate information. Eligible individuals can donate
safely by adhering to routine medical guidelines and screenings. Raising
awareness will bring more donors forward."
Shuvosangho’s district unit organising secretary Abdul Kader
Suman remarked that even modest voluntary efforts reflect civic responsibility
and empathy towards others.
Throughout the week, the campaign will focus on health
screenings, safe collection protocols, and promoting donor eligibility
standards to bolster emergency reserves.
