To raise public awareness about dengue prevention, Bashundhara
Shuvosangho distributed awareness leaflets among pedestrians, students, retail traders,
vehicle drivers, and passengers in front of the Abhaynagar Upazila Parishad,
Jashore on Sunday afternoon.
Aside from handing out leaflets, members of the organisation
also advised people to take necessary precautions to prevent dengue.
The leaflets contained information on eliminating Aedes
mosquito breeding grounds, keeping the surroundings of homes clean, preventing
water from accumulating in containers and other places, and protecting oneself
from mosquito bites. They also urged people to consult a doctor promptly if
dengue symptoms appeared and to go to a hospital if severe symptoms developed.
The campaigners included: Syed Sohaieb Imtiaz Iyad,
president of the Bashundhara Shuvosangho Abhaynagar Upazila branch; vice-president
Ashikuzzaman Ashik; joint general secretary Harun Or Rashid, publicity
secretary Hasan Masud Utso, and members Nayeem Uddin, Mahadi Masud, Alvir
Hossain, Roni, and others.
Mohammad Alamin Hossain, a passer-by and madrasa teacher, praised
the initiative by Bashundhara Shuvosangho, adding that the organisation has
been carrying out various other activities for public welfare.
Syed Sohaieb Imtiaz Yad, president of the Bashundhara
Shuvosangho Abhaynagar Upazila branch, said that dengue cases had increased in
Abhaynagar compared with other upazilas in Jashore district. In response to the
situation, the organisation was distributing leaflets to raise awareness.
He further said that Aedes mosquitoes generally bite during the daytime. Therefore, people should remain cautious to avoid mosquito bites during the day. If necessary, they can use mosquito nets, wear clothing that covers the body, and apply approved mosquito repellents.
