A total of 100 underprivileged, trained women from riverine areas of Lalmonirhat received sewing machines on Sunday to help them attain financial self-reliance.

Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the distribution ceremony at the Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad auditorium at noon. Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Rashedul Haque Pradhan formally handed over the sewing machines to the beneficiaries as the chief guest.

Eminent author and Shuvosangho’s chief and adviser Imdadul Haq Milan, Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Shuvosangho’s director Zakaria Zaman, and Shuvosangho’s Lalmonirhat district unit adviser and Sheikh Shafiuddin Commerce College principal Entazur Rahman were present on the occasion.

Among others, journalist Haider Ali Babu, Shuvosangho’s Aditmari upazila unit adviser and retired assistant professor Sunil Kumar Sutradhar, Shuvosangho’s Lalmonirhat district unit president Jamal Hossain, and general secretary Nayem Islam attended the function.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Deputy Commissioner Rashedul Haque Pradhan said, "Never before in Lalmonirhat's history has any organisation provided sewing machines to so many families simultaneously. Empowering unemployed women through self-reliance contributes significantly to the local economy, and Bashundhara Shuvosangho deserves high praise for such humanitarian efforts."

Shuvosangho’s chief and adviser Imdadul Haq Milan said, "We provide scholarships to 3,000 underprivileged students alongside establishing schools and libraries. We plan to build another school in the char areas of Mahishkhocha. These sewing machines will help you stand on your own feet."

Expressing their gratitude, beneficiaries said the training and sewing machines had given them a new lease of life, enabling them to bear educational expenses, support ailing family members, and overcome severe poverty through self-employment.
