Ramzan Ali took up barbering as he could not pursue his studies further due to his family’s financial hardship.
Despite working as a barber, he has always had a special passion for books. He dreamed of arranging rows of books in a corner of his salon, where he could read them himself and offer them to customers waiting for their turn.
However, for various reasons, he could not fulfil his dream for a long time.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho has come forward to fulfil his dream. The young man’s salon at Shantiganj Bazar in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat has been turned into a library.
Renowned novelist, Bashundhara Group Adviser and Bashundhara Shuvosangho chief Imdadul Haq Milan inaugurated the salon library by cutting a ribbon on Friday afternoon.
Shuvosangho Director Zakaria Zaman, Kaler Kantho’s Lalmonirhat correspondent Haider Ali Babu, Lalmonirhat Shuvosangho Adviser Tanmoy Ahmed Nayan, President Jamal Hossain, General Secretary Naim Islam and other members of the organisation were present.
The salon library began its journey with around 150 books.
Imdadul Haq Milan said the collection would be expanded further in the future.
Ramzan Ali said, “I could not continue my studies beyond Class VIII due to financial hardship. However, I love reading books. Today, my workplace has been turned into a library.
“I will be able to read books myself, while my customers can also spend their waiting time reading instead of sitting idle,” he added.
