To facilitate swift blood procurement during emergencies and promote voluntary blood donation, the Bagerhat district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho conducted a free blood grouping campaign in the town on Thursday.
The day-long initiative was arranged at the Swadhinata Uddan
premises in the morning, determining the blood groups of over a hundred
individuals across diverse ages and professions.
Sheikh Zakir Hossain, general secretary of the Bagerhat
District Land Officers’ Welfare Association; Abubakar Siddique, general
secretary of voluntary blood donation platform Alor Pothe; and Shahanaj Akhter,
head of the blood division at the Red Crescent Society, attended the programme
as guests. Abubakar Siddique and Shahanaj Akhter supervised the diagnostic testing.
Conducted by Bagerhat district unit President Mamun Ahmed
and led by General Secretary Md Al-Amin Sardar, the campaign drew active
participation from unit leaders, including Office Secretary Rakibul Islam,
Organising Secretary Md Naimur Rahman, Planning Secretary Ratul Kumar Sheel, IT
Affairs Secretary Ariful, Social Welfare Secretary Rabbi Mollya, and Women Affairs
Secretary Sonia Akhter, alongside Sabiha Tuli Lamia, Priya Akhter, and Nushrat
Akhter.
Executive members Taslima Akhter, Jerin, Baishakhi, Toufika,
Siam, Nakibul Islam Antar, and Alimun Azad were also present.
Addressing the gathering, guests underscored that advance knowledge of one's blood group saves critical time during surgical interventions, post-accident trauma, maternal complications, and chronic illnesses.
Special guest Sheikh Zakir Hossain noted that with a surge
in local dengue cases, awareness regarding blood components is imperative.
"Dengue often triggers sharp drops in blood platelet counts, requiring
urgent transfusions under medical advice. Initiatives like this bridge vital
diagnostic gaps," he observed.
Unit President Mamun Ahmed and General Secretary Md Al-Amin
Sardar reiterated that the drive sought to encourage healthy citizens to become
registered donors, ensuring no patient suffers treatment delays due to blood
shortages.
