Bashundhara Shuvosangho has distributed meals to more than 500 disadvantaged people in Narsingdi as part of its humanitarian initiative to support those in need.
The programme, organised in collaboration with Daridryer Hotel under the motto “People Standing Beside People”, took place at Narsingdi Poura Park on Monday, 19 October.
Manzur Elahi, member of parliament for Narsingdi-3 (Shibpur), attended the programme as the chief guest. He personally handed out food to the beneficiaries and enquired about their well-being.
People from different walks of life who were struggling to meet their basic needs gathered at the park at noon to collect the meals. Many of them expressed relief and happiness after receiving food.
Speaking at the programme, Manzur Elahi said it was the moral responsibility of financially capable people to stand beside disadvantaged members of society. He said true humanity lay in supporting people during times of hardship and need.
He expressed hope that such initiatives by Bashundhara Shuvosangho would help promote humanitarian values in society.
Mahbubur Rahman Monir, adviser to the central committee of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and president of its Narsingdi district committee, oversaw the programme. Under his supervision, volunteers distributed meals and managed the overall activities.
Among others present were prominent businessman and social worker Russel Bin Hasanat; Asaduzzaman Noor, founder of Daridryer Hotel; Azhar Shamim, Pronoy Saha, Ashik and Ifad, along with other volunteers. Members of Daridryer Hotel also assisted with the food distribution.
Mahbubur Rahman Monir said Bashundhara Shuvosangho had long been conducting various humanitarian and social activities to support disadvantaged people. He said the initiative in Narsingdi reflected the organisation’s commitment to addressing people’s basic needs with compassion.
He added that providing food to hungry people was not merely a social programme but also an expression of people's responsibility towards one another. He said greater participation by financially capable people in helping those in need could reduce inequality and strengthen social bonds.
Leaders and volunteers of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, members of Daridryer Hotel and local dignitaries attended the programme. The beneficiaries welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that similar activities would continue in the future.
