To help underprivileged women achieve financial self-reliance, the Saltha upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho launched a three-month sewing training programme for 20 underprivileged women in Faridpur.
Upon completing the course, the trainees will receive free
sewing machines to support their self-employment.
The training centre was inaugurated at the Saltha upazila
hall room on Friday (16 October) afternoon. The initiative aims to equip local
disadvantaged women with tailoring skills, integrate them into
income-generating activities, and foster sustainable livelihoods.
Chaired by Saltha upazila unit President and Saltha Press
Club President Nurul Islam Nahid, the inaugural session was addressed by Saltha
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Dabir Uddin as the chief guest.
Social worker Muha Sarowar Hossain and Bashundhara Shuvosangho Faridpur district unit President Tanmay Roy attended as special guests. General Secretary Md Mainul Islam, trainer Emy Sultana, local journalists, and the 20 trainees were also present.
Addressing the event, speakers emphasised that imparting
vocational skills is crucial for uplifting disadvantaged women. They noted that
sewing skills enable women to earn from home, ease household financial
pressure, and enhance their social dignity and confidence.
Guests urged participants to attend sessions diligently and apply
their skills effectively.
Organisers said the three-month course will provide hands-on
tailoring instruction, followed by the distribution of sewing machines to help
trainees launch micro-enterprises and contribute to their families' well-being.
