To build public awareness on the adverse impacts of climate change and foster collective action for environmental protection, an interactive discussion titled "Impacts of Climate Change" was held with students in Bhola Sadar on Thursday.

The Bhola Sadar upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the discussion, which was presided over by the unit's Vice-President Md Ifaz.

Bhola district unit President of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and General Secretary of Bhola Social Organisations Unity Forum Md Shafayat Hossain Siam addressed the event as the guest speaker.  Shuvosangho’s Bhola unit Vice-President Mir Abid Hossain and Sadar upazila unit General Secretary Nur Fatema also attended, alongside unit members and students.

Md Shafayat Hossain Siam noted that climate change is no longer a distant threat, with its consequences already disrupting daily life, agriculture, livelihoods, and health.

"As a coastal district, Bhola faces escalating climate fallout, including riverbank erosion, cyclones, tidal surges, rising salinity, and erratic weather patterns," he said.

He stressed that tackling these challenges requires long-term sustainable interventions, including afforestation, waste and plastic reduction, wetlands preservation, and biodiversity conservation.

Speakers emphasised that youth must take active leadership in their communities by participating in tree-planting drives, waste management, and anti-pollution campaigns to foster an eco-friendly generation.

Presiding over the session, Md Ifaz stated that Shuvosangho works to cultivate environmental responsibility among youth as part of its civic commitment, striving to build a livable, green society.

Participants underscored that combating climate risks requires coordinated efforts among government agencies, social platforms, academic institutions, and local communities to protect vulnerable coastal populations.
