Bashundhara Shuvosangho Jagannath University branch have planned initiatives to raise public awareness about voluntary blood donation.

They have placed particular emphasis on engaging volunteers to meet the urgent blood needs of patients suffering from dengue and other diseases, while fostering a spirit of voluntary blood donation among students.

To this end, a discussion meeting was held on Saturday at the central office of Bashundhara Shuvosangho in Dhaka. Members of the Jagannath University branch discussed plans to raise awareness about blood donation, organize blood group testing campaigns, compile a list of voluntary blood donors, and outline future activities. They also exchanged views on strengthening the organization’s activities.

During the meeting, Tawseef Ahmed Mahin, a student of the Department of Public Administration, said that anyone could need blood at any time. Therefore, students must be made aware of the importance of blood donation. He noted that the initiative could become more effective by organizing blood group testing programs and bringing together those interested in donating blood.

Md Saiful Alam Rinku, a student of the Department of Anthropology, said that fear and misconceptions about blood donation still persist in society. Students must step forward to dispel these misconceptions. Publicity campaigns and awareness-raising activities can encourage people to donate blood voluntarily.

Samia Akter, a student of the Department of History, described blood donation as a humanitarian initiative. She stressed the need for young people to come forward to ensure that patients do not suffer due to a shortage of blood, especially during emergencies. She also emphasized the importance of raising awareness about blood donation among women.

Satya Kumar Tanchangya, a student of the Department of Law and Land Administration, said that responsibility is just as important as awareness when it comes to blood donation. The safety of both donors and recipients must be ensured. He added that the organization could play an important role in connecting blood donors with patients in need through reliable information.

Suraiya, a student of the Department of Anthropology, said that awareness about the importance of blood donation must be increased among both students and the general public. Regular campaigns, discussion meetings, and blood group testing programs can help foster a positive attitude toward blood donation.

Rakibul Islam Rifat, a student of the Department of Statistics, proposed creating a reliable database by preserving information about voluntary blood donors. This would make it easier to find donors during emergencies. He also noted that data-driven planning could help assess the progress of blood donation initiatives.

Md Rasel Sheikh, a student of the Department of Sociology, said that a collective effort by young people is needed to turn blood donation into a social movement. Regular programs and campaigns on social media can help spread the message of blood donation to a wider audience.

Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho believe that coordinated efforts, a sense of humanitarian responsibility, and regular awareness campaigns can help expand the culture of blood donation. Through these initiatives, young people hope not only to help meet urgent blood needs but also to strengthen empathy and humanitarian values in society.
