Bashundhara Shuvosangho has opened a sewing training centre in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur to help underprivileged women develop skills, become self-reliant and access employment opportunities.
The centre will provide free three-month
sewing training to 20 local women. Upon completion, trainees will be provided
with sewing machines free of cost based on their skills and performance.
The centre was formally inaugurated on Friday
at Bhanga Mohila College under the initiative of the Bhanga upazila unit of
Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Prof Mian Md Enayet Hossain, an adviser to
the Bhanga upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, its president Golam Morshed
Molla, general secretary Md Limon Sheikh, trainer Bina and other members of the
organisation attended the inaugural event.
The trainees will receive hands-on training
in various sewing techniques, with emphasis on enabling them to use their
skills to generate income after completing the course.
Speakers at the event said women should not
be limited to receiving financial assistance; rather, they should be equipped
with skills to become self-reliant.
They said training a woman in
income-generating skills can enable her to contribute to her own financial needs
as well as her family’s economy. In particular, a sewing machine coupled with
proper training can create a long-term source of income for a woman, they
added.
Local stakeholders welcomed the initiative,
saying its benefits could extend beyond the trainees to their families and
communities.
They said enabling women from low-income
families to earn from home through sewing could help ease financial pressure on
their families.
