Aiming to build public awareness on shunning adulterated food and ensuring safe dietary habits, the Meherpur district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed leaflets and offered guidance to citizens across the town on Thursday.

The awareness drive was launched in the afternoon from the Mollikpara intersection in Meherpur town.

Volunteers distributed informational flyers highlighting the severe health hazards of food adulteration and best food-safety practices among local restaurants, pedestrians, rickshaw pullers, van drivers, auto-rickshaw operators, and members of the public.

Meherpur district unit President of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Rafiqul Alam Bokul presided over the event.

The distribution programme was attended by Shuvosangho’s Meherpur unit adviser and Kaler Kantho district correspondent Md Yadul Momin, adviser Rafiqul Alam, freedom fighter Captain (retd) Abdul Malek, General Secretary Syed Mahfuzur Rahman, Joint General Secretaries Md Sajid Islam and Md Asaduzzaman Raju, Organising Secretary Muntasir Mahamud, Office Secretary Rafi Hasan, Sports Secretary Jamil Hossain, Women's Affairs Secretary Mousumi Khatun, and executive members Anik Islam, Mostafa Jabal, Umme Mubashshara Islam Munia, and Md Sakib Sheikh.

In his presidential address, Rafiqul Alam Bokul warned that adulterated food poses a grave threat to public health.

"Ensuring safe food cannot depend solely on administrative drives; both business owners and consumers must act responsibly," he said, urging citizens to examine quality, expiry dates, and hygienic conditions while purchasing food.

During the drive, organisers advised traders and consumers on proper food-handling practices, reiterating their commitment to building community resistance against food contamination through continued civic engagement.
