To raise public awareness about measles and help prevent its
spread, Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a day-long leaflet distribution
campaign in Gaibandha town on Monday.
Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed measles
awareness leaflets among pedestrians, businesspeople, and local residents. They
also spoke directly with people, explaining the symptoms of measles,
precautions against the disease, and the importance of staying alert to prevent
its spread.
Awareness plays an important role in dealing with infectious
diseases such as measles. In particular, parents were urged to remain vigilant
about their children’s health, seek necessary healthcare services on time, and
ensure that family members follow appropriate health and hygiene practices. The
campaign also aimed to dispel misconceptions about the disease and spread
messages about the importance of health awareness.
Those present at the campaign included Bashundhara
Shuvosangho Gaibandha district branch adviser Humayun Ahmed Biplob and members
Samiul Basir, Ayon Sultan, Sohanur Rahman, and Tirtha Talukdar.
Humayun Ahmed Biplob said, “Measles is an infectious
disease. Its spread can be controlled to a significant extent through timely
awareness and necessary preventive measures. Our initiative is aimed at
increasing public awareness. Parents, in particular, need to be more conscious
about protecting their children’s health. If every member of society becomes
aware and takes responsibility from their own position, they can play an
important role in preventing the spread of measles.”
He said people should be made aware of diseases before they
spread, rather than only after an outbreak occurs. If families, educational
institutions, social organisations, and various local-level institutions work
together, the reach of health awareness can be expanded further, he noted.
