Bashundhara Shuvosangho activists called on families,
educational institutions, social organizations, and concerned citizens to work
together to protect young people from online gambling, and drug abuse at a
discussion held at Kalai Ahle Hadith Complex in Kalai upazila, Joypurhat on
Saturday.
Before the discussion meeting, an introductory meeting was
held for the newly formed committee of the Kalai upazila branch of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho.
In the discussion, the speakers included: Bashundhara
Shuvosangho Kalai upazila branch newly-appointed President Md Abul Hasnat
Sarker Babla, Vice President and Ajker Patrika’s Joypurhat district
correspondent Md Ataur Rahman, General Secretary Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Advisor
and Kaler Kantho’s Joypurhat district correspondent Alamgir Hossain Chowdhury,
and Advisor Md Rezaul Islam
Md Abul Hasnat Sarker Babla said that protecting young
people from online gambling and drugs cannot be left solely to law-enforcement
agencies. Families, educational institutions, and social organizations must
work together and provide young people with opportunities for healthy
entertainment and constructive activities.
Advisor Md Rezaul Islam said the lure of making money easily
is pushing young people toward online gambling. Therefore, parents should
develop friendly relationships with their children and keep track of their
online activities, friends, and mental well-being.
Vice President and Ajker Patrika’s Joypurhat district
correspondent Md. Ataur Rahman said mobile phones can contribute to young
people developing online gambling habits. Therefore, alongside self-control in
the use of technology, parents must also play a responsible role.
General Secretary Mohammad Ali Jinnah said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has undertaken initiatives to raise awareness against online gambling and drug abuse as part of its social responsibility. He said these activities should be expanded further with the participation of people from all sections of society.
