Twenty women in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh received sewing machines and saplings on Thursday after completing a three-month sewing training programme organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Imdadul Haq Milan, Ekushey Padak-winning author, adviser to Bashundhara Group and chief of Shuvosangho, handed over the sewing machines and saplings to the women at a programme at the Upazila Auditorium in the afternoon.
Speaking
at the programme, Imdadul Haq Milan said the main objective of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho was to stand beside disadvantaged and underprivileged people in
remote areas.
“Helping
someone financially cannot change their life forever, but providing them with
an employment opportunity or a means of earning can help them change their own
lives,” he said.
He
said the sewing machines would help the women support their families and build
better futures for their children.
He
added that Shuvosangho was also providing scholarships to thousands of students
across the country and building homes for people without shelter.
Nandail
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fatema Jannat, who chaired the programme, praised the
initiative, saying training and sewing machines could help women in remote
areas become self-reliant.
She
said economic independence was closely linked to women’s dignity and social
standing and urged the beneficiaries to make regular use of the machines to
improve their livelihoods.
She
also assured them of necessary support in securing orders for garments made by
them in the future.
The
programme was also attended by Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mujahidul
Islam, Nandail Upazila BNP Senior Joint Convener Mizanur Rahman Liton, acting
principal of Government Shahid Smriti Adarsha College Mohammad Enamul Haque,
UAS Anwar Hossain, Nandail Press Club President Enamul Haque Kabul, Additional
Agriculture Officer and Shuvosangho adviser Md Kamrul Hasan Kamu, and former
Dhaka city Chhatra Dal vice-president Farhana Binte Abdullah.
