Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised an awareness programme in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram on dengue prevention and cleanliness, aiming to raise public awareness and promote a healthy environment.

The workshop was held at the seminar room of Rajibpur Muktijoddha Bhaban on Monday (14 September).

Arif Mahmud, organising secretary of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Rajibpur Government College unit, moderated the programme.

Acting member secretary of Rajibpur upazila Jubo Dal Mizanur Rahman Limon, upazila Chhatra Dal convener Mokhlesur Rahman, Rajibpur Union Chhatra Dal president Hannan and college Chhatra Dal convener Sohel Rana attended the event as guests.

The speakers said maintaining cleanliness and destroying breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes are among the most effective ways to prevent dengue.

They stressed the need to keep homes, educational institutions and surrounding areas clean regularly and urged people to remain vigilant so that stagnant water does not create breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

They said Aedes mosquitoes can breed in clean, stagnant water accumulated in various containers, flower pots, discarded tyres, coconut shells, construction materials and other places following rain and during the monsoon.

Therefore, they said, dengue prevention should not rely solely on mosquito control measures; stagnant water should be removed regularly and potential breeding sites destroyed.

The speakers also said preventing dengue was not solely the responsibility of the government. Individual awareness, family-level precautions and collective social initiatives could significantly help control the spread of the disease.

They urged everyone to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean and encourage others to do the same to reduce the risk of dengue.

Bashundhara Shuvosangho Rajibpur upazila unit members Khokon, Sajib, Ripon, Farukul, Masud, Samiul, Nazmul, Shital and Rajib, among others, attended the awareness programme.

Participants pledged to conduct regular cleanliness drives, remove stagnant water and play an active role in raising awareness about dengue prevention in their families and communities.
