Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Gopalganj district unit honoured meritorious students who achieved GPA-5 in this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.
The reception was held at the auditorium of Gopalganj Government District School at 11am on Thursday.
Professor Md Aminul Karim, principal of Gopalganj Government Women’s College, attended the event as the chief guest.
He praised the initiative by Bashundhara Group and Bashundhara Shuvosangho, describing it as a humane and commendable effort.
“Those of you sitting here today will lead the country tomorrow. The responsibility of building the Bangladesh of the future rests with you. However, you must always remain connected to your roots and eventually give back to your society and country,” he said.
Assistant Professor Brata Sarker Dip of the college said education would be truly meaningful only when students respected their parents.
“Make sure that no parent has to go to an old-age home because of you,” he told the students.
Mahmud Ali Khandakar, adviser to the Gopalganj district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and assistant professor of Political Science at Gopalganj Government College, said today’s students would lead the country in the future.
“Generation Alpha is blessed with diverse talents. We must work consciously from our respective positions to establish a discrimination-free and corruption-free state by utilising their talent. We must speak out against injustice and remain respectful towards our parents, teachers and elders,” he said.
Md Shah Alam, vice-principal of Gopalganj Government College and chief adviser to the Shuvosangho district unit, presided over the programme.
“Meritorious students will build the Bangladesh of tomorrow. However, it is not enough to be good students; you must also become compassionate people with good character,” he said.
At the end of the discussion, crests and certificates were handed to 14 GPA-5 achievers from five educational institutions in Gopalganj district.
Of them, five were from Government District School, three from Gopalganj Girls’ High School, two from Charpara Ghonapara High School, one from the Gopalganj branch of Shaheen School and three from Swarnakali High School.
The programme was conducted by Sujon Das, president of the Gopalganj district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Teachers from different educational institutions and other members of the Shuvosangho district unit were also present at the event.
