Speakers have said coordinated efforts by families,
educational institutions, society and the government are needed to prevent
students from dropping out. They emphasized raising parental awareness,
providing financial support, preventing child marriage and child labour, and
ensuring a student-friendly environment to keep students in school.
They made the remarks at a discussion titled “Student
Dropout and Remedies,” organized by the Moulvibazar district branch of
Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Monday at the premises of Moulvibazar Sadar Model
Government Primary School.
The meeting was attended by Bashundhara Shuvosangho
Moulvibazar district branch President M Muhibur Rahman Muhib, Vice President
Abdal Hossain, writer and researcher Muhammad Abu Taher, cultural personality
Khaled Chowdhury and school head teacher Rohena Akter Khanom.
Assistant teachers Momtaz Begum, Dilruba Binte Yahia,
Sharifa Akter, and other teachers and students were also present.
The speakers said scholarships, educational materials and
necessary support should be ensured for students from poor families, while
students at risk of dropping out should be monitored regularly.
Muhammad Abu Taher said the dropout rate could be reduced
significantly if parents regularly kept track of their children's studies and
maintained communication with the school.
M Muhibur Rahman Muhib said student dropouts cannot be
prevented without coordinated efforts by teachers, parents and students. He
emphasized standing beside disadvantaged and poor students while creating a
joyful and safe environment at schools.
