Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s Government Azizul Haque College branch on Thursday organised an awareness campaign on the college campus in Bogura to help prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease and raise awareness among students.

As part of the programme, students were provided with leaflets and guidelines containing information on dengue prevention, symptoms and the steps to take after infection.

College Principal Professor Mahfuzul Islam said students must remain conscious of protecting both the environment and their own health.

“Government Azizul Haque College has between 40,000 and 42,000 students. If students become aware in their respective positions and encourage their families and people around them to remain cautious, preventing dengue will become much easier,” he said.

He added that everyone must work collectively to keep the world and their surroundings safe.

Leaders of various student organisations, including Azizul Haque College Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Convener Rajibul Islam Shakil, Senior Joint Convener Atikul Islam Biplob and Member Secretary Rafiul Islam, expressed solidarity with the initiative.

The leaflets described dengue as a mosquito-borne viral disease and highlighted symptoms including high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, and body and joint pain. Students experiencing such symptoms were advised to take adequate rest and seek medical advice.

The campaign also advised the use of paracetamol for fever in accordance with a doctor's advice and cautioned against taking medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen without medical consultation. Students were also encouraged to drink sufficient water and other fluids.

The guidelines further warned that patients should be taken to hospital immediately if, even after the fever subsides, they experience bleeding from the nose or gums, black stools, severe abdominal pain, extreme weakness or other serious symptoms.

Speaking at the programme, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Azizul Haque College branch General Secretary Muniruzzaman said the main objective was to raise awareness to protect the health of students and others across the campus.

“Through this initiative, we want to help keep students safe amid changing weather patterns and environmental risks. Such public-awareness activities will continue in the future,” he said.

Among others present were the branch's Organising Secretary Abu Sayem Nishat, Social Welfare Secretary Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Publicity Secretary Rashedul Ahsan Monir, Assistant Organising Secretary Abu Talha, members Md Mehedi Hasan, Al Imran, Rakibul Hasan and Fahim, as well as students Rahat and Barsha of Begum Rokeya Hall.

Student Barsha praised the initiative, saying such welfare-oriented programmes were important in improving students' health and social awareness alongside their academic pursuits.

“It is truly a commendable initiative. I hope such activities will continue in the future,” she said.
