Bashundhara Shuvosangho's Lalmonirhat district unit has launched a three-month free sewing training programme aimed at empowering underprivileged women and students through skills development.

The programme, inaugurated on Wednesday at Sheikh Shafiuddin Commerce College auditorium in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, is providing training to 100 widows, disadvantaged women and students from different parts of the district.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Bashundhara Shuvosangho Lalmonirhat district unit President Md Jamal Hossain and moderated by General Secretary Md Nayeem Rahman.

Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad Administrator AKM Mominul Haque attended the event as the chief guest.

Among the special guests were Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Lalmonirhat Unit General Secretary Advocate Jinnat Ferdous Ara Rozy, tax lawyer and social worker Advocate Majmul Hossain Pramanik, social worker Anisur Rahman (VP Anis), Bashundhara Shuvosangho advisers Principal Entajur Rahman and Tanmoy Ahmed Nayan, and members of the sewing training centre subcommittee.

Speaking at the programme, Zila Parishad Administrator Mominul Haque described the initiative as a commendable effort, saying it would play an important role in helping poor women and students in remote areas become self-reliant.

Principal Entajur Rahman said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been working consistently to develop entrepreneurs, support disadvantaged women and assist talented students from low-income families. He added that the sewing training and sewing machine distribution programme would significantly contribute to achieving those goals.

One of the trainees said she has been struggling to support her family due to her husband's illness and hoped that receiving a sewing machine after completing the training would enable her to earn a living independently.
