With the aim of raising environmental awareness among
students and building a green Bangladesh, Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised a
tree-planting programme and distributed saplings in Jibannagar upazila,
Chuadanga on Tuesday.
Discussions were also held on tree planting, tree care and
the role of the younger generation in protecting the environment.
The programme was held on the premises of Jibannagar Thana
Model Pilot Secondary School, with teachers and students of the school, members
of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and local dignitaries taking part.
Speaking at the programme, school head teacher Rebeka
Sultana said there is no alternative to tree planting in tackling climate
change and environmental pollution at present. “It is not enough to simply
plant trees; students must also take responsibility for properly caring for
them,” she said. Such initiatives will help instil a sense of environmental responsibility
among students, she added.
Jahidul Islam, a member of the Jibannagar upazila branch of
Bashundhara Shuvosangho, said Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been regularly
carrying out various environmental, educational, health and humanitarian
activities out of its commitment to society. “Our goal is to build a habitable
and green Bangladesh for future generations through tree-planting programmes,”
he said.
Members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho upazila branch Tariq
Mahbub and Niloy, along with school teachers Matiar Rahman, Jonaet Islam,
Billal Hossain and Aynal Haque, among others, took part in the programme. The
event was conducted by Zahirul Islam, Jibannagar correspondent of Kaler Kantho.
