Bashundhara Shuvosangho delivered emergency food assistance
to flood-affected residents in hilly areas in Alikadam Upazila of Bandarban on
Monday.
Most roads had gone underwater in the Meringchar Para,
bringing transportation to a standstill.
Despite the communication network being nearly cut off in Meringchar
Para, the volunteers overcame numerous obstacles to deliver essential food
items, including rice, lentils, potatoes, onions, edible oil and salt, to
affected families.
The beneficiaries expressed relief after receiving the
assistance. One flood victim said, "There has been no work and no income,
and our crops have also been destroyed. At such a difficult time, Bashundhara
Shuvosangho has stood by us. This support is a great blessing for us."
Local residents said delivering relief to such a remote
hilly area was no easy task. They praised the volunteers for taking risks to
reach people's doorsteps with food assistance, adding that such humanitarian
efforts have given fresh hope to flood-affected families during this crisis.
SM Ziauddin Jewel, president of the Alikadam Upazila branch
of Bashundhara Shuvosangho; branch advisers Nurus Safa Bhuiyan Babu, Sushanta
Kanti Tanchangya; members Arafatul Islam, Sethong Mro, Menchong Mro, and other
volunteers of the organisation took part in the relief distribution initiative.
The volunteers also visited affected families and raised
awareness about using safe drinking water, maintaining proper hygiene, and
preventing common waterborne and flood-related diseases.
