Bashundhara Shuvosangho has opened a sewing training centre in Barhatta upazila of Netrokona to help disadvantaged women develop skills and become self-reliant.
The three-month training programme has enrolled 20 participants, including widows, underprivileged women, poor women and students. Skilled trainer Fatema Akter will conduct the training sessions.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the opening ceremony on Friday afternoon at Barhatta Pilot Girls’ High School premises with trainees and members of the organisation attending.
Barhatta Shuvosangho President Azizul Haque Faruk chaired the programme, while General Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman Hira moderated the event.
Among the guests were Upazila Press Club President Shamsuddin Ahmed Babul; Bashundhara Shuvosangho adviser and former general secretary of Barhatta Press Club Ferdous Ahmed Babul; adviser and Headteacher of Barhatta Pilot Girls’ High School Abul Khair Akand Titu; Upazila Shuvosangho Vice-President and journalist Latibur Rahman; and Treasurer and journalist Ripon Goon.
A trainee from an underprivileged family said she struggles to support her family with her disabled husband and children. She expressed hope that after completing the training and receiving a sewing machine through Bashundhara Shuvosangho, she would earn an income and contribute to her family's expenses.
Shamsuddin Ahmed Babul inaugurated the training programme and praised the initiative. He said the project would play an important role in helping poor women and students in the remote area achieve financial stability.
Adviser Ferdous Ahmed Babul said Bashundhara Shuvosangho works to create entrepreneurs, support disadvantaged women and assist talented poor students with their education expenses. He added that sewing training and providing sewing machines serve as important tools in achieving these goals.
Adviser Abul Khair Akand Titu said the training would help helpless and disadvantaged women become entrepreneurs. He praised Bashundhara Shuvosangho for its continued efforts for public welfare.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho President Azizul Haque Faruk said the organisation’s slogan, “Shubho kajey shobar pashe” (beside everyone in good deeds), reflects its commitment to serving society. He said the organisation would continue such initiatives in the future.
