The Bashundhara Shuvosangho unit at Dinajpur Government
College conducted a cleanliness drive on the campus on Tuesday to eliminate
potential breeding grounds of Aedes mosquitoes.
They also raised awareness about dengue and chikungunya
prevention.
During the cleanliness drive, Bashundhara Shuvosangho
activists removed accumulated waste, cleared bushes and weeds, and cleaned
areas where stagnant water could collect.
During the programme, they urged students to remain vigilant
against dengue. They said the risk of dengue and chikungunya could be
significantly reduced by keeping homes, educational institutions and
surrounding areas clean. They also encouraged regular cleaning of places where
water accumulates and advised students not to allow water to collect in flower
pots, discarded tyres, coconut shells and other containers. Awareness campaigns
on maintaining cleanliness were also conducted.
Lecturer of the Department of History and adviser to the
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dinajpur Government College unit, Sabbir Rahman, said,
"Cleanliness is not only a personal habit but also a social
responsibility. There is no alternative to awareness and a clean environment in
preventing diseases such as dengue and chikungunya."
Speaking at the programme, Bashundhara Shuvosangho Central
Committee Joint General Secretary Md Yachir Arafat Rafi said, "Dengue and
chikungunya are now among the country's major public health concerns.
Government initiatives alone are not enough to prevent these diseases; social
awareness and collective participation are equally essential."
Others present included Arup Kumar Roy, president of the
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dinajpur Government College unit; Shahriar Kabir, vice
president; Jakir Hossain Rifat, general secretary; and others.
