Bashundhara Shuvosangho's Sadullapur Upazila unit organised a discussion on "Civic Responsibility and Social Harmony" in Gaibandha on Monday to encourage responsible citizenship and inspire young people to engage in voluntary and humanitarian activities.

Volunteers of the organisation attended the programme, where speakers discussed civic awareness, social values, respect for the rule of law and the role of young people in building a peaceful and inclusive society.

The discussion took place under the chairmanship of Ashikur Rahman, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho's Sadullapur Upazila unit.

Among others, Humayun Ahmed Biplob, adviser to the organisation's Gaibandha district unit; Ahsan Azim Pradhan, district president; Ahsania Tasnim, general secretary; Sumaiya Akter; Jannatul Akter; Ashidul Rahman; and Dibakar Modak Kabya attended the programme along with other leaders and volunteers.

The speakers said responsible citizens should remain aware of both their rights and responsibilities. They stressed the importance of obeying the law, respecting differing opinions, promoting communal harmony regardless of religion or ethnicity and contributing to social order.

They also warned that rumours, misinformation and hate speech on social media continue to create unrest in society. They urged young people to verify information before sharing it and to spread positive messages that foster unity and social stability.

The speakers encouraged volunteers to take part in tree plantation, blood donation, environmental protection, support for underprivileged people and awareness campaigns on education and healthcare.

They noted that Bashundhara Shuvosangho has been carrying out humanitarian and social development programmes across the country and continues to promote volunteerism among young people.

The speakers also urged the volunteers to uphold patriotism, morality and humanitarian values, saying that coordinated efforts by families, educational institutions and social organisations are essential to building a responsible, aware and harmonious society.

At the end of the programme, the participants pledged to fulfil their civic responsibilities and work actively to strengthen social harmony in their communities. They also stressed the need to organise similar public awareness programmes regularly in the future.
