Bashundhara Tissue and Shuvosangho jointly organised a tree plantation programme at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Saturday under the theme, "A Beautiful Tomorrow Through Greenery", to promote environmental conservation and sustainable development.
JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Nazrul Islam
(Administration) inaugurated the programme at the university's Central Playground
at 10am.
As part of the initiative, members of
Bashundhara Shuvosangho planted fruit-bearing, timber and medicinal tree
saplings at different important locations on the campus, including around the
Central Playground and the premises of several residential halls, with the aim
of preserving ecological balance and promoting a greener campus.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof Nazrul
Islam said there is no alternative to tree plantation in addressing the
challenges of climate change.
"The greening initiative undertaken by
Bashundhara Shuvosangho across the country by engaging young people is highly
commendable. Programmes like this at a naturally rich and biodiverse campus
such as Jahangirnagar University will further enhance environmental awareness
among students," he said.
Expressing her feelings after the programme,
Bashundhara Shuvosangho JU unit President Prottasha Rani said the successful
implementation of the tree plantation drive will help make the campus greener,
more beautiful and environmentally friendly.
"We believe this initiative will encourage
greater environmental awareness among students. Let us build a greener future
not only by planting trees but also by taking proper care of them," she
said.
